Theresa Sareo Regains Life Through Music
In June 2002, Theresa Sareo was struck by a drunk driver, resulting in the loss of her right leg. She took tragedy and turned it into triumph by becoming a motivational speaker and releasing three self-produced albums. Her music is powerful, yet tender and flows effortless with a deep, passionate force.
Theresa is a frequent visitor/performer at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, D.C., which was the inspiration for her widely popular, powerful single, “Through A Soldier’s Eyes.” She regularly performs at Military conventions, fundraisers and bases including Forts Bragg, Lee, Eustis, Monmouth, Hamilton, Gordon, The Fighting 69th and MacDill Air Force Base, and at VA Hospitals along the eastern seaboard including Tennessee Valley Healthcare System, The Brooklyn Campus of the VA New York Harbor Healthcare System and James A. Haley VA in Tampa. She is a favorite performer for AFCEA (Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association) with her second appearance at LandWarNet in Ft. Lauderdale. Theresa proudly made history as the first civilian to sing the National Anthem at Walter Reed Army Hospital for their 100th Anniversary Celebration on May 1, 2009 and was honored by the hospital’s Chaplain’s Department for her devoted work with the wounded troops who recover there. She has also been personally invited by General Carter Ham; Commanding General of U.S. Army Europe, to visit with troops recovering from Iraq and Afghanistan at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center near Ramstein AFB in Germany, as well as other medical facilities throughout Europe.
Her documentary film Theresa Sareo: Alive Again chronicles the story of her life and career and has garnished “Audience Choice for Best Documentary” (2012 Gasparilla International Film Festival–Tampa) and “Best Director of a Documentary (2012 NY International Film Festival–L.A. Edition) awards. It is produced by Evan Ginzburg; associate producer of “The Wrestler” with Mickey Rourke, first-time director, Rye Joseph, and Ms. Sareo.
