World Trade Center Spire Lifted into Place

Over the past 12 years, New Yorkers and all Americans have watched the clean up, planning and re-building of the World Trade Center. We’ve seen and been through a whole spectrum of emotions: the heartbreak of tragedy, the unification of our nation, the seemingly impossible and endless clean-up, the mourning, planning and eventual rebuilding of a new, taller tower.

In recent weeks, more remnants of the 9/11 attacks have been found in lower Manhattan.  As one reminder of tragedy is being cleaned up on the ground, a reminder of our nation’s resilience is lifted into the sky.

Construction on the Freedom Tower began in August of 2006, and is projected to be finished in 2014.  The most recent piece will complete the tower that will rise a symbolic total of 1,776 feet, making it the tallest building in the country and the third-tallest in the world.
