Although Bianca Strzalkowski, Spouse of an active duty Marine, won the 2011 Military Spouse of the Year award from Military Spouse Magazine, there was another winner to note. Christine Gilbreath, a North Texas volunteer, was the first National Guard Spouse to be nominated for the coveted award.  She is a volunteer at the Redmond Taylor Heliport in Grand Prairie and was one of the six top finalists. 2011 was the first year the magazine added National Guard to the list of Military divisions in the competition.
